Virtual ASME/API Training: HERE TO STAY?

3rd-7th August is Virtual training week at WILKINSON COUTTS. We’ll share some of our experiences and views on this new presentation method. Check out our posts and website snippets this week.

Feedback On The Virtual Classroom

At Wilkinson Coutts, we’ve had a POSITIVE experience with running virtual classroom courses over the past few weeks. Reading online forums, it’s clear that not everyone has had the same experience. We’ve found it distils down to a few main points:

You have to convert existing training material to make it suitable for the virtual classroom

Virtual presentations have to be personalised, to keep people’s engagement

Trainers can’t just act as a one-way presenter. It’s important to act as facilitator of discussions between delegates to keep things lively and interesting

Like a classroom course it’s important to know your audience. This is one of the reasons why at Wilkinson Coutts we always limit delegate numbers to a number we can actively interact with. Attempting to teach 15,20 or more delegates at a time is not for us because we don’t think it fits the subjects we teach.

So far, we haven’t found any aspect of Virtual training that prohibits, or even reduces, the type of interaction we use on our classroom courses. It’s just a case of changing the approach slightly. We ask delegates questions; that’s part of our style of teaching. Interaction is key!
