Overview
Offshore Structures – Inspection and Risk Management
Our Offshore Structural Inspection and Risk Management course is designed for professionals responsible for maintaining the integrity of offshore structures in the UK. Whether you are a planner, inspector, corrosion engineer, or risk manager, this course equips you with the knowledge and skills to ensure your offshore assets meet regulatory standards and operate safely and efficiently.
You’ll gain expertise in degradation mechanisms, advanced inspection techniques, structural design principles, and risk-based inspection (RBI) strategies through a comprehensive blend of theoretical frameworks and practical applications. The course also covers the latest industry standards and regulations, ensuring you fully comply with UK legislation, such as the HSWA and Safety Case Regulations. With training in cutting-edge inspection technologies like drones, ROVs, and ultrasonic testing, you can proactively identify early signs of degradation and mitigate risks.
Course Summary:
This course provides a deep dive into the technical and practical aspects of offshore structural integrity management, focusing on key areas such as:
- Regulatory Compliance & Integrity Management: Understand UK-specific regulations and how to implement a comprehensive asset integrity program.
- Structural Design & Load Analysis: Learn how to calculate load types and apply industry-standard design codes to ensure structural reliability.
- Degradation Mechanisms & Failure Modes: Identify and assess critical degradation processes and failure modes that impact offshore structures.
- Risk-Based Inspection (RBI): Master RBI methodologies to optimise inspection schedules and minimise operational risk.
- Advanced Inspection Techniques: Gain hands-on experience with the latest inspection technologies, including drones, ROVs, and ultrasonic testing.
- Anomaly & Remedial Management: Learn to prioritise structural anomalies and develop remedial strategies that enhance asset longevity.
- Engineering Assessments & Documentation: Understand engineering assessment stages and maintain essential documentation for integrity assurance.
- Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement: Ensure your integrity management program drives continuous improvement and meets key performance indicators (KPIs).
This course is ideal for professionals involved in the inspection, maintenance, and risk management of offshore structures, ensuring your skills are at the forefront of industry best practices. Start enhancing your expertise today and secure the safety and efficiency of your offshore assets.
Course Modules
Module 1 Integrity Management & Regulatory Framework
- Topics: Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) cycle, asset integrity programs, UK regulations (HSWA, Safety Case Regulations, PFEER), HSE requirements.
- Goal: Understand the regulatory framework and develop a structured integrity management program.
Module 2: Structural Loading & Design
- Topics: Load types (axial, bending, torsional), shear forces, bending moments, design codes (ISO, API, DNV), steel and concrete structures, design methodologies (ASD vs LRFD).
- Goal: Calculate structural loads and apply design codes to ensure compliance and performance.
Module 3: Degradation Mechanisms & Failure Modes
- Topics: Corrosion, fatigue, wear, identifying degradation mechanisms, failure modes (brittle fracture, buckling, fatigue failure).
- Goal: Recognise and assess key degradation mechanisms and failure modes in offshore structures.
Module 4: Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) & Risk Management
- Topics: Risk matrices, likelihood and consequence of failure (LoF, CoF), risk-based inspection (RBI) vs prescriptive methods, risk assessment.
- Goal: Conduct risk assessments and implement RBI strategies to optimise inspection and maintenance schedules.
Module 5: Inspection Techniques & Technologies
- Topics: Visual inspections (GVI, CVI), ultrasonic testing (UT), drone and ROV inspections, preparing inspection workpacks.
- Goal: Master the latest inspection techniques and technologies for offshore structures.
Module 6: Anomaly & Remedial Management
- Identification of Structural Anomalies: Methods to detect and classify anomalies in offshore structures, such as corrosion, cracking, and deformation.
- Prioritization of Anomalies: Techniques for assessing the severity and urgency of identified anomalies based on risk and operational impact.
- Remedial Strategies: Approaches to mitigating or correcting structural issues, including repairs, reinforcements, or modifications.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that remedial actions align with industry standards and regulations.
- Case Studies: Real-world examples of anomaly management and remediation from offshore projects.
- Monitoring and Follow-Up: Strategies for ongoing monitoring after remediation to prevent recurrence and ensure long-term integrity.
Goal:
The goal of Module 6 is to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage structural anomalies. By the end of the module, attendees will be able to identify, assess, and prioritize anomalies and develop appropriate remedial strategies to mitigate risks, ensuring the continued safety and operational efficiency of offshore structures.
Module 7: Engineering Assessments & Documentation
- Topics: Stage 1, 2, and 3 engineering assessments, key integrity procedures (RBI, Asset Structural Reviews), documentation requirements.
- Goal: Perform detailed engineering assessments and maintain essential documentation for structural integrity.
