Four Types of API Exam Questions

API Certification Exam Questions have a specific style to them. The style is common in the USA and some other places but follows different logic to that seen in many other countries. Here are four types encountered:

  1. Verbatim code content questions: These are about some verbatim statement that is made in a code.
  2. Paraphrase or intent questions: Similar to (1) above but the quote is loose or paraphrased.
  3. Elimination or ‘least wrong’ answers to a question
  4. General engineering knowledge questions. These appear in principle in a code, but have been heavily interpreted to form the question and answer options.

If you want to see these in action, download our sample sheet here. Unsure of the exam process, there’s lots of handy info on the API Website.

OUR TEST QUESTIONS ALWAYS ENCOURAGE INTERACTION

That’s how we write them. Long experience shows it’s the most effective way to teach people, rather than just provide blocks of formulaic questions. It’s fair to say that NO OTHER training provider uses API test questions in the same interactive way that we do. That’s one reason for our 95%+ pass rate.

EXAMPLES IN THE VIRTUAL CLASSROOM

We teach how to handle these four types of question exactly the same on virtual courses as we do in the classroom. We’ve found this works fine for both ‘classroom’ examples and the mock examinations.
