Overview

ASME Plant Inspector Level 2 Course

Our  4 day ASME Plant Inspector Level 2 Course is for those wishing to progress from Level 1, or for experienced inspectors and engineers looking to expand their technical knowledge, the ASME Plant Inspector Level 2 training course provides an intensive but practical challenge.

This course progresses naturally from the level 1 content, albeit with greater technical complexity. It is suited to stakeholders who are responsible for the planning, inspection, assessment, and management of static pressure equipment integrity.

The course is designed to cover the in-service processes of the pressure equipment life cycle. Primarily, it is intended to provide the knowledge to compile an Inspection Plan/Written Scheme of Examination and conduct the relevant post-inspection assessments. The ASME Plant Inspector Level 2 training course introduces management and planning activities such as Risk Based Inspection and screening of pressure vessels for Non-Intrusive Inspection.

Delegates will be introduced to API 579/ASME FFS-1 and will learn how to conduct level 1 assessments for localised and general metal loss while being provided with an insight into the applicability and limitations of such evaluations.

Lastly, the course provides the necessary knowledge to make run, repair, or replace decisions. ASME PCC-2 is introduced to give the repair options, while API 510/570 is introduced for the re-rating procedures.

You will complete 4 weeks of eLearning before attending the 4-day classroom course. Part of our API 571 eLearning course is included in the pre-classroom study.

Course Suitability:

A particularly invaluable course for those wishing to progress from ASME level 1, or for experienced inspectors and engineers looking to expand their technical knowledge.

Subjects Covered:

– Pressure Equipment Design and Materials
– Damage Mechanisms and Inspection
– Inspection planning and RBI
– Fitness for Service Assessments
– Repair Selection

Where & When Do I Sit The ASME Examination On Completion Of Training?

The ASME examination is held within the classroom on the 4th and final day of the course. Expect to receive your results within 5-7 days following successful course completion.

FAQs

Wilkinson Coutts is an approved ASME training provider for the three different levels of Plant Inspector, levels 1, 2, and 3 each with increasing levels of difficulty. These courses provide a measurable way for the participating delegates to demonstrate their breadth of skill and knowledge in the assessment and management of fixed-pressure equipment. The plant inspector courses are held over one calendar week, typically with three to four days of training followed by the exam on the final day. Importantly, these courses are delivered by experienced in-service inspectors and integrity engineers who can share their knowledge and provide real-life examples during the course. All successful candidates will be awarded an ASME certificate.

Unlike API training where the exam is held within a Prometric Test Centre, the ASME examination is held within the classroom on the final day of classroom training. If you opt to complete the ASME training through eLearning, then the ASME exam is completed online.

There is no registration required to sit the ASME examination. The delegate must complete the full duration of classroom training prior to sitting the exam.

To be considered for direct entry to ASME Plant Inspector Level 2, we ask that the delegate holds at least 1 API, whether it be API 510/570 or 653. We do accept delegates to sit the training without having had API training prior however at the very minimum the ASME Level 1 certificate is required. It is possible to achieve the ASME Level 2 certificate without having undergone any form of API training, however, for the sake of the delegate, we do recommend having this to avoid any unnecessary struggle on the course.

Plant inspector Level 3 (Principal Level) is an intensive course suitable for candidates who wish to demonstrate the highest level of technical and management-related knowledge relating to plant inspection. Direct entry to level 3 would be ideal for those individuals who are Chartered Engineers or similar. Those who hold level 2 and have gained further experience at that level are also eligible. All suitability for this level will be reviewed to ensure that the minimum requirements have been satisfied as this course relies heavily on experience and prior knowledge.
