Virtual Training to Stay?

Virtual Training API and ASME Plant Inspection

03-07th August is Virtual training week at WILKINSON COUTTS. Learn about our Virtual Training API and ASME Plant Inspection training.

We’ll share some of our experiences and views on this new presentation method. Don’t believe in eLearning benefits? Take a look here at some industry guidance.

Virtual Training: Some Key Points

We’ve found training using Virtual Presentations means adapting some key points:

Encouraging Interaction: This is the biggest of them all. Most people learn best by interaction.

Time to Absorb Information: This needs to be longer than in a classroom setting.

Decreasing the number of Slides: This is always a good principle, but more important when delegates are disconnected.

Handling Delegate Questions: It’s a fine balancing act between encouraging questions and moving the presentation forward.

How effective is Personal Training?

It’s clear that for some people it can be equally as effective as classroom training.

For others, the temptation to lose focus, remain silent or take short-cuts wins the day.

Thus, this method of tutelage is less effective for them. We address these issues by doing the following:

  •  Use Test Questions that require delegates to participate
  • Keep presentation snippets that don’t require interaction to a maximum of two minutes long
  • Interspersing sessions with break-out periods (with a work assignment question or questions to work on)

A Note on Wanting to Learn

We’ve found delegates react to Virtual Training sessions exactly the same way to delegates who prepare for classroom courses.

Delegates who have prepared well, know what’s coming and come with list of things they WANT TO LEARN do much better than those who don’t.

It’s a simple formula that works every time.
